此套《多米尼斯的中國攝影集》由american《LIFE / 生涯》雜志攝影師 John Dominis 拍攝。此套共 1012 幅，照片重要記錄了 1972 年尼克松訪華以及 1959 年土改后的臺灣地區。這些照片年夜致拍攝于 1950 至 1972 年，拍攝田主要有北京、臺灣、噴鼻港等。
1972 年時任american總統的理查德·尼克松應時任中華國民共和國國務院總理周恩來邀請，對北京、杭州和上海進行的訪問，這是american總統歷史上第一次訪問中華國民共和國，並且尼克松到訪北京期間，還在中南海與中國共產黨中心委員會主席毛澤東會面。此次訪問是中美國交正常化的過程中主要的一個步驟。這是american總統第一次訪問當時被認為是其敵對國家的中華國民共和國，同時也終結了兩個國家長達二十五年彼此隔絕的歷史。1972 年 2 月 21 日，american總統尼克松抵達北京。2 月 28 日，中美上海聯合公報發表，宣布中美兩國關系走向正常化，史稱尼克松訪華。尼克松稱此次的訪問為 “改變世界的一周”。
